WPF Feature Suggestions

Welcome to the WPF feature suggestion forum. Please vote or submit a feature request. If it is not a product feature request it might be moderated.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. WPF should have default theme like Silverlight

Today, WPF's default theme sux (see DataGrid).
Also take a loot at my connection and the link in its description where you can see images of what I mean:

    • Create a StrokeGradient Brush

Create a stroke gradient brush. For example ... like Charles Petzold has simulated in his blog entry: http://www.charlespetzold.com/blog/2009/02/Graphical-Paths-with-Gradient-Colors.html

      • Support TextSearch with virtualized TreeView

When TextSearch is enabled for a virtualized TreeView, it works only for the visible tree items. It should work with ALL items.

            • Visualization of DataTemplates

DataTemplates should be visualized in the designer, so the dev can select individual fields in a DataTemplate.

              • Less for xaml

We need CSS for styling xaml and an abstraction on top of xaml to make it a more productiv language. Less and sass is far supior for styling than xaml.

                • Text Editor Control

A text editor of complexity between the WPF RichTextBox and the TextBox controls, that allows character-by-character addressing and control. Ideally it would be similar to the IDE's text input control.

                  • Fully localised date picker

A fully localised date picker supporting dates from all .Net supported and Windows supported calendars e.g. Hebrew calendar. The WPF toolkit has a localised Gregorian calendar but not the actual different calendar types.

                    • Extend implicit styles to work for all x:Class roots, like Windows

                      As per this discussion:
                      http://stackoverflow.com/questions/431940/how-to-set-default-wpf-window-style-in-app-xaml

If you supply a TargetType, all instances of that type will have the style applied. However derived types will not... it seems. <Style TargetType="{x:Type Window}"> will not work for all your custom derivations/windows. <Style TargetType="{x:Type local:MyWindow}"> will apply to only MyWindow.

                      • Make nRoute of codeplex a integral part of VS2010 (like MEF)

Because this framework supports routing between Views in WPF, Silverlight and WP7, is flexible and extensible supports common patterns like MVC or MVVM and will probably end the current djungle of different solutions which only solve things partly.

                        • Allow option to disable pre-multiplied alpha. Users can do it themselves in pixel shaders if needed.

Allow bitmaps being used as pixel shader inputs to not get pre-multiplied by alpha. The user can handle alpha how they want in the pixel shader - that is the whole point of using pixel shaders.

                          • Create some 3D controls

Make use of the 3d capabilites in WPF with some 3D controls. Put them in the WPF Toolkit if you dont want them in the Main .Net trunk for now. It's fluff, but some fluff is nice now and then. Transitions, front/back controls, etc.

                            • Introduce strongly typed bindings

When you create a {Binding}, the "Path" property is a string. This means no intellisense, no compile time check. A great enhancement would be to write a lambda expression in the XAML, just like in ASP.NET MVC Views. We would have compile time errors instead of run time errors, and support for refactoring.

                                      • Make internal use of BindingGroup in DataGrid optional

Validation is already complex in WPF and the obligatory use of BindingGroup in DataGrid makes validation inconsistent if not buggy. See the numerous complaints on "datagrid validation" on Microsoft Connect. BindingGroup is an unfortunate UI-centric transaction mechanism. AFAIK SL can do even do without it.
I'd rather have a transaction mechanism based on a temporary, custom build clone object like in dialog windows. Contrary to the BindingGroup this would work neatly with a 'fully interactive' viewmodel and MVVM.

Converter for .fbx file to have a possibility to convert .fbx files to XAML code (for ex. ModelVisual3D).
