I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

  1. Fix DataGrid handling of INotifyDataErrorInfo

.NET 4.5 introduced INotifyDataErrorInfo in WPF. However, it doesn't behave correctly with DataGrids. The row indicator doesn't appear at the right time, nor does it clear when the error goes.

Here is the issue on Connect:

    https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/807728/datagridrow-error-indicator-not-working-with-inotifydataerrorinfo

    and here on SO:

      • Integrate native Aero Glass (DWM) controls into WPF as you did with JumpLists

When dealing with extending the glass into the client aerea you have to use native DWM calls and DPI calculations to get a proper effect.
How about a property or something to control aero glass behavior?

Like a property in the window that takes a Size object: ExtendGlass usage:
        <Window ExtendGlass={Binding ElementName=NavigationBorder, Path=Width, Converter={StaticResource DoubleToLeftSizeConverter}}>

        • Fix PrintDialog threadsafety + owner window

Right now, System.Windows.Controls.PrintDialog takes its owner window from the Application.Current.MainWindow property. This means only that one window can open it property, and only one thread can use it. This makes it pretty near useless; you have to substitute the windows-forms dialog instead to work around this.

          • Make DataGridTemplateColumn properties support data binding

DataGridTemplateColumn currently does not support data binding of its properties. For example, if you want to set the Header of each column dynamically based on data, you can't. You have to hard code the data in the XAML file. Another example is Visibility. Given that AutoGenerateColumns doesn't work for complex data types, there's little that can be done in WPF to dynamically displace complex tabular data. There are some workarounds, such as Josh Smith's DataContextSpy, but they are all kludgy and painful. In general, properties in WPF controls and components should support data binding out of the box.

            • provide better design time support for WPF

I am a devoted user of WinForms' technology, I recently started to develop in WPF 4 and I noticed that my productivity is lowered into creating GUI even banal.
The Visual Studio designer for WPF can not even remotely stand comparison with WinFroms one, so there are tons of XAML to write by hand.
In the visual studio designer certainly less functional part is the PropertyGrid that can not be of help if not to set the boolean fields.
I hope that the next version of VS there is a much better designer

                  • Change binding before control is loaded

Currently, it is not possible to change a binding or datacontext before a control is loaded. Therefore, you will have to wait until the control is loaded (and handle a lot of binding errors), and then replace the binding or datacontext value.

                    • Event notification when an UI element gets text from IME (input method editor).

Since the current TextCompositionManager.TextInput event does not support certain input scenario.
                      Issue is reported here:
                      https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/508048/text-is-submited-but-no-textinput-event

If this issue is by design of the TextInput event. it'd help if there's an event that fully supports all input scenarios thru IME.
The same issue occurs with the UIElement.TextInput event in Silverlight 4 Beta as well.

                      • DXVA support for video playback

Not all CPUs can decode HD video streams. It will be very helpful if WPF provides DXVA decoding to allow GPU decodes video streams

                        • Selectable TextBlock / Label

Although this can be achieved using TextBox, it would be great if the actual TextBlock control (or at least the Label control) - can be selectable as these are much lighter controls than the TextBox.

                          • Add CurrentState property to MediaElement

The property should be available to check the current state of MediaElement. In Silverlight it uses the MediaElementState enumeration. Also expose event fired that the state changes.

                            • Allow Bindings to be extended

Binding and BindingBase currently have a lot of internal properties and methods restricting them from being extended. If I could extend Bindings, I could create a custom Binding that was aware of my built in Validation system. For an example of how it could be used, see http://www.clariusconsulting.net/blogs/kzu/archive/2007/09/23/ForgetaboutextendingWPFdatabindingsupport.aspx

It's impossible to provide the ConverterParameter of a Binding with another Binding.
                                  You must create a MultiBinding.

                                  • Enhance Window class to support IDropTarget shell file openeing

In Windows, the preferred interaction for opening files from Windows Explorer is via IDropTarget (see Raymond Chen's blog). System.Windows.Window or Application class should have a ready hook into this mechanism. As it is we must all roll our own IDropTarget interop.

                                    • Make the controls MVVM friendly.

ie Date and calendar controls are not too MVVM friendly when you need to set blackout days or events.

                                      • Math support in FlowDocument

FlowDocument is nice for text, but it's not powerful enough for technical content. Could you please include some support for rendering math content, like what was added to recent versions of PTLS (RichEdit)?

                                        • Add better support for multiple pointing devices

Multipoint SDK demonstrated how you could create applications using multiple mice and keyboards. Unluckily the development of Multipoint SDK seems to be discontinued.

So please make support for multiple input devices a first class citizen into WPF.
