I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. Add project-wide xmlns declaration and apply to all xaml files similar to aspx project-wide imports

Avoid having to repeat xmlns:foo in every xaml file in a project.

    • Add WPF Business Application project template, similar to Silverlight

Similar to the Silverlight Business Application template: A starting point for new developers which includes navigation, basic layout, perhaps some ViewModel pattern stuff.

      • Virtualization of Variable-Height Views/Data

Optionally support fixed width, and a variety of algorithms for calculating scrollbar parameters. (e.g. Query the entire collection for item dimensions up front, optionally cache views, etc.)
Support table, list, and tree scenarios.

An example of where this would be useful, is an email client that showed the full content of messages (thus variable height) in the right hand pane.
In our case, we have a list of hundreds of types of forms each with different and often variable height. We hacked together a virtualization solution that tworks, but something more polished could work better.

Continue expanding upon shader support by supporting vertex shaders.

            • Add multi-selection support in ListCollectionView (and friends)

A ListCollectionView keeps a "SelectedItem" to track selected item in a collection, it would be really nice to extend it so it also has a "SelectedItems"-observablecollection that tracks more than one 1 item. And of course keep "SelectedItem" for the "most selected item" kind of.

              • Add IsolatedStorageSettings (System.IO.IsolatedStorage.IsolatedStorageSettings) to WPF

In Silverlight you have the wonderful IsolatedStorageSettings class that allows you to save any kind of object (including sub-objects) in isolated storage.

                For instance: IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings["LastRun"] = DateTime.Now;

Please add that to WPF as well; maybe also with different visibilites like "Application", "User", "Machine".

                • Add Window.DragResize() for resizing borderless windows/custom chrome

To make resizing using border/corner handles less of a chore when implementing custom window chrome.

                    • Support for defining the design-time value of any property

Currently one has specialized attributes like d:DesignWidth to define a width in the designer, while having no effect at all at runtime. It would be useful to be able to prefix any existing property to have a specific design-time value.
E.g. I know my user control will be over a dark parent and its text is white. To ease designing the control, I may want to do:
                      <UserControl d:Background="DarkBlue">
Other example, let's say I have a custom markup extension to lookup some label names... but of course at design time they are empty... Let's fix this poor design experience:
                      <TextBlock…

                      • XAML text substitution templates

Two controls. Nearly identical default styles, but one small bit deep inside is different. Solution today? Clone the entire block of XAML for both controls. I'd like some way to say <{TAG} /> and have {TAG} get filled in by "BasedOn" XAML (so ctrl X would say BasedOn Y style and then supply the text to use in place of {TAG}).

                        • Make the controls MVVM friendly.

ie Date and calendar controls are not too MVVM friendly when you need to set blackout days or events.

                          • Add designer attribute in Xaml for DataContext type

It'd be nice to be able to specify an x:Type for the designer to use when dealing with a DataContext, for use with DataTemplates and ViewModel-first MVVM. This would potentially allow intellisense to work when using VM-first style MVVM development.

                            • Event notification when an UI element gets text from IME (input method editor).

Since the current TextCompositionManager.TextInput event does not support certain input scenario.
                              Issue is reported here:
                              https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/508048/text-is-submited-but-no-textinput-event

If this issue is by design of the TextInput event. it'd help if there's an event that fully supports all input scenarios thru IME.
The same issue occurs with the UIElement.TextInput event in Silverlight 4 Beta as well.

                                  • Relative margins based on FontSize

Consider a control that looks like a yardstick or ruler. There's a bunch of tick marks with numbers underneath, and the ticks are centered to the tick mark. The control's bounds need to include the text, which means you need a margin on the tick marks themselves that changes size depending on the FontSize. There are multiple other controls I've built where such "relative margins" are very necessary.

                                    • Implement a pre-unload event in ObservableCollection or in ItemsControl

14.Some kind of pre-unload event. E.g., if an object is removed from an ObservableCollection, make it as easy to play an Unloaded storyboard as it is for a Loaded storyboard. Perhaps it's specific to the item containers of an ItemsControl.

15.Make it possible to figure out the XAML URI from a Type. E.g., this should pass:
                                        Assert.AreEqual("/MyAssemb;component/Page1.xaml", GimmeUri(typeof(Page1)))

                                        • Provide way for ICommands to determine the UIElement which owns the command

ICommands should have the ability, when executed, to determine which UIElement owns the command. Perhaps when event handlers are invoked, CallContext could be used to store the current UIElement 'sender'.
