I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. High use of controls or triggers made application flickered

    When we use layout controls at high end and triggers, due to client requirement we create own style for specific control made wpf application flickered sometime... which is not good interface for client.

      • Fix compositecollection's lack of DataContext

        this StackOverflow post explains it all:

        http://stackoverflow.com/a/6446923/643085

        Basically, the CompositeCollection is a pain to work with due to it's lack of DataContext and the inability to use ElementName bindings.

        Please provide a way to bind the CollectionContainer.Collection Property to, say a ViewModel (underlying DataContext of the UI element whose ItemsSource is assigned the CompositeCollection) or allow the usage of ElementName binding for that:

        The following XAML snippet doesn't work in WPF 4.5:

        <ContextMenu>
        <ContextMenu.ItemsSource>
        <CompositeCollection x:Key="CompositeCollection">
        <CollectionContainer Collection="{Binding MyViewModelCollection}"/>
        </CompositeCollection>
        </ContextMenu.ItemsSource>
        </ContextMenu>

        Ideally, I'd expect that the CollectionContainer would be able to bind against the ContextMenu's DataContext somehow.

        • Less for xaml

          We need CSS for styling xaml and an abstraction on top of xaml to make it a more productiv language. Less and sass is far supior for styling than xaml.

          • Complete the Support for WPF Serialzation in System.Xaml namespace

            The XamlObjectReader will throw defered load exceptions for WPF schema. This apparently is because the Save method on the System.Windows.TemplateContentLoader was not implemented.

            Failing this please make Visual Studio or Blends object Serialization source publicly available.

            Even better do both.

            In any case custom applications that may want to do designer or transformations on XAML would greatly benefit by this, and it appears it just wasn't completed.

            Thank you.

            • Remove the nested message loop from UpdateLayout

              I need to call UpdateLayout() in order to trust the height, width properties of various controls. Imagine a UI builder where I need to predict the size of a button or scrollbar BEFORE it's ever rendered on screen. To do this, I can create a hidden control, run UpdateLayout then use the sizes. However, UpdateLayout runs the message loop and can deliver events which I'm not ready for resulting in crashes and other issues.

              I need a way to get accurate sizes for controls without running the message loop.

              • Fix DataGrid handling of INotifyDataErrorInfo

                .NET 4.5 introduced INotifyDataErrorInfo in WPF. However, it doesn't behave correctly with DataGrids. The row indicator doesn't appear at the right time, nor does it clear when the error goes.

                Here is the issue on Connect:

                • Support Vista icons (with compression and 256px)

                  Even .NET 4.0 still cannot use Vista icons (larger than 128px or compressed ICO files) for window icons. See https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/321285/wpf-application-fails-if-window-icon-is-a-vista-ico-file

                  That should be fixed.

                    • Please fix the refactor-rename bug

                      If you perform a refactor-rename in a C# class file in Visual Studio, it will often cause a rename of attributes in XAML files with the same name. See this link for a more complete description: http://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/656466/refactor-rename-bug#tabs. This bug is closed and marked "won't fix". I can understand that other things might be higher priority, but this is a legitimate bug that happens to me every few days, and it really does harm my productivity.

                      • Make DataGridTemplateColumn properties support data binding

                        DataGridTemplateColumn currently does not support data binding of its properties. For example, if you want to set the Header of each column dynamically based on data, you can't. You have to hard code the data in the XAML file. Another example is Visibility. Given that AutoGenerateColumns doesn't work for complex data types, there's little that can be done in WPF to dynamically displace complex tabular data. There are some workarounds, such as Josh Smith's DataContextSpy, but they are all kludgy and painful. In general, properties in WPF controls and components should support data binding out of the box.

                        • Databind to ReadOnly DependencyProperty

                          Currently you cannot databind to a read only DependencyProperty. How about changing this behavior to allow databinding to a read only DependencyProperty.

                              • Introduce strongly typed bindings

                                When you create a {Binding}, the "Path" property is a string. This means no intellisense, no compile time check. A great enhancement would be to write a lambda expression in the XAML, just like in ASP.NET MVC Views. We would have compile time errors instead of run time errors, and support for refactoring.

                                  • iOS and OSX support

                                    We're fighting a loosing battle when trying to port applications to iOS and OSX. How about helping some ppl out there that are already trying to allow cross platform support (Xamarin?). Even if it's just silverlight. I'm not sure if this is just a restriction from Apple's side... but it makes it very difficult to build consumer based applications in WPF when many of our customers are running apple products. Telling them to install windows as a virtual machine also doesn't make things that much easier (and cannot be done on iOS).
