I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

  1. provide better design time support for WPF

I am a devoted user of WinForms' technology, I recently started to develop in WPF 4 and I noticed that my productivity is lowered into creating GUI even banal.
The Visual Studio designer for WPF can not even remotely stand comparison with WinFroms one, so there are tons of XAML to write by hand.
In the visual studio designer certainly less functional part is the PropertyGrid that can not be of help if not to set the boolean fields.
I hope that the next version of VS there is a much better designer

    • Hyperlink Control

      Hyperlink control like a HTML.
Allow link a file in local machine.

      • VideoRendererElement for integration of DirectShow and Media Foundation

The VideoRendererElement could provide a renderer filter (DirectShow) or a media sink (MF) or an activation object (IMFActivate). You could use that in your DirectShow filter graph or MF topology.
At the moment, the possibilities for using DirectShow/MF in a WPF application are dissatisfying: you can use a native window for video rendering (with all the airspace issues), you can use the combination of an EVR custom presenter and a D3DImage (it is awkward and uses the UI thread for updating the video image), and of course you can use MediaElement with all its limitations (video playback only).
        We badly…

        • Create a WPF Directory Selector

Create a WPF Directory Selector. I have to include the WIndows Forms one, and once I do that, Visual Studio now thinks my project is a forms project, and acts quite differently.

          • WPF NotifyIcon??

Although WPF is supposed to replace Win-Forms, or at least be a good alternative of win-forms for desktop applications, it's missing some very essential components

And I am talking about the NotifyIcon of course

            Here is another few controls:
            PropertyGrid
            NumericUpDown
            MaskedTextBox
There are lot more I don't remember.

            • Make the WPF Ribbon look closer to the Windows Ribbon

The current WPF ribbon is not too realistic... The application button is not the right color, nor is the ribbon tab the right gradient. There are some necessary animations not done, while there are animations not found in the Windows Ribbon. The buttons in the ribbon control group do not look similar to the Windows Ribbon buttons at all. I suggest that the WPF Ribbon be made more realistic before any additional development is done.

              • Fix the SWF/WPF airspace issue

Currently, System Windows Forms based controls always draw on top of WPF controls when they overlap, which is undesirable. I suggest that you fully integrate SWF controls into WPF so they appropriately handle the z-order, opacity, zoom, and other WPF properties.

                • Make bicubic scaler available in WPF

I want to be able to do
                  <Image RenderOptions.BitmapScalingMode="Bicubic" />
The Fant scaler is prone to artifacts that are not suitable for my biomedical imaging application.
WIC supports bicubic scaling on its IWICBitmapScaler interface, upon which WPF is built.
Please expose bicubic scaling in WPF's TransformedBitmap and RenderOptions.BitmapScalingMode so I don't have to roll my own Image class and access WIC directly.

                  • Let us disable the minimize or maximize button, or hide the system menu icon.

WPF does not seem to provide a way to disable the title-bar buttons separately. You can make a window non-resizable, but if you want, say, a resizable modal dialog (which should not be minimizable), you have to resort to P/Invoke. It's not real hard, but we shouldn't have to do it.

                    • Extract and edit template from system control like in Expression Blend

In MS Expression you can select a control->Edit template->Make a copy and have the xaml that is used for the base control.
This feature should be implemented in Visual Studio as well.

                      • Fix PrintQueue.CreateXpsDocumentWriter threadsafety

This method fails if called on any thread but the Application thread, because it tries to access Application.Current.StartUri. Printing on a worker thread is useful, but to do it you have to work around this by writing out your own .xps file first, then submitting to the queue.

                        • Let me override the default value for DatePicker.FirstDayOfWeek

With most other dependency properties I can override the default value in my App.OnStartup method using OverrideMetadata. However, DatePicker assigns a default value to FirstDayOfWeek in the instance constructor, so the dependency property's default value is never used.

                          • Fix PrintDialog threadsafety + owner window

Right now, System.Windows.Controls.PrintDialog takes its owner window from the Application.Current.MainWindow property. This means only that one window can open it property, and only one thread can use it. This makes it pretty near useless; you have to substitute the windows-forms dialog instead to work around this.

                            • Fix XPS Document Writer Threadsafety

If you try to submit an .xps document to "Microsoft XPS Document Writer" printer using PrintQueue.AddJob(), but from a worker thread (not the application thread), it fails with an exception. I don't understand how that is even possible, but it's irritating to have to special case this one driver to print on the main app thread.

                                      1) I'm looking at a design capability for Flowdocument. At present if we need to use VS 2010 for designing XPS document, then unfortunately we will have to place in in Windows XAML within a FlowDocument Scroll Viewer(or equivalent document readers). The Vs 2010 as such does not support FlowDocument as a root in XAML designer

                                      2) Another important issue is about getting the header and footer in the document. At present we will have to use pagination Wrapper that inherits from DocumentPagination class and do it manually. Can there by much eaiser means to achieve the same.

                                      3) The…

                                      • Better custom chrome support for Window

It's without a doubt that custom chrome apps are becoming popular, with office as being a leader, and other MS apps.

It would be great if full support was baked into the window, I am speaking in terms of:

                                        - Better drop shadow support for borderless windows
                                        - Retaining animation for minimizing, maximizing windows
                                        - Aero snap support
                                        - Fixing issues when WindowStyle is none and maximizing causing it to be in Kiosk mode.
                                        - Inherent and native support for extending glass into non client area.

There are far too much hacking, pinvoking to be done just to achieve these…

                                        • Make the DataGrid at least as fast as the WinForms DataGridView

The WPF DataGrid is useseless for showing more than 1-2K rows. It is either slow and jumpy when virtualizing or eats gigabytes of RAM when not virtualizing.

Meanwhile the WinForms DataGridView displays upwards of 100K rows without breaking a sweat...
