I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. Implement shared views/controlls for universal apps

Implement shared views/controlls for universal apps that auto scale depending on the form factor and the device type.

      • Change binding before control is loaded

Currently, it is not possible to change a binding or datacontext before a control is loaded. Therefore, you will have to wait until the control is loaded (and handle a lot of binding errors), and then replace the binding or datacontext value.

        • Event notification when an UI element gets text from IME (input method editor).

Since the current TextCompositionManager.TextInput event does not support certain input scenario.
          Issue is reported here:
          https://connect.microsoft.com/VisualStudio/feedback/details/508048/text-is-submited-but-no-textinput-event

If this issue is by design of the TextInput event. it'd help if there's an event that fully supports all input scenarios thru IME.
The same issue occurs with the UIElement.TextInput event in Silverlight 4 Beta as well.

          • Update the desktop guidelines

The current UX guidelines for the desktop hark back to 2010, and are quite dated. The UX guidelines for Modern UI are quite good, but there is no clear direction on what/where UX should be going on the desktop itself.

Not all CPUs can decode HD video streams. It will be very helpful if WPF provides DXVA decoding to allow GPU decodes video streams

              • Add CurrentState property to MediaElement

The property should be available to check the current state of MediaElement. In Silverlight it uses the MediaElementState enumeration. Also expose event fired that the state changes.

                    • Allow setting Binding.ConverterParameter to another Binding.

It's impossible to provide the ConverterParameter of a Binding with another Binding.
                      You must create a MultiBinding.

                        • Enhance Window class to support IDropTarget shell file openeing

In Windows, the preferred interaction for opening files from Windows Explorer is via IDropTarget (see Raymond Chen's blog). System.Windows.Window or Application class should have a ready hook into this mechanism. As it is we must all roll our own IDropTarget interop.

                          • Something like ICommand but with state (e.g. for a ToggleButton)

Currently you can hook up an ICommand to a button and have it invoke the command when the button is pushed, and the IsEnabled state of the button will change when the CanExecute state of the ICommand changes.

What you can't do is automatically reflect any other state that relates to the command on the UI.

The most obvious example I can think of is a "Bold" ToggleButton on the toolbar of a text editor. Clicking the button should toggle whether the slected text is bold or not, but the toggle state of the button should reflect whether the *currently…

                            • Math support in FlowDocument

FlowDocument is nice for text, but it's not powerful enough for technical content. Could you please include some support for rendering math content, like what was added to recent versions of PTLS (RichEdit)?

                              • Add better support for multiple pointing devices

Multipoint SDK demonstrated how you could create applications using multiple mice and keyboards. Unluckily the development of Multipoint SDK seems to be discontinued.

So please make support for multiple input devices a first class citizen into WPF.

When you select a control in the WinForms designer there is always a short text explaining what a property is used for. In WPF this feature is missing. Please add it.

                                  • Remove the nested message loop from UpdateLayout

I need to call UpdateLayout() in order to trust the height, width properties of various controls. Imagine a UI builder where I need to predict the size of a button or scrollbar BEFORE it's ever rendered on screen. To do this, I can create a hidden control, run UpdateLayout then use the sizes. However, UpdateLayout runs the message loop and can deliver events which I'm not ready for resulting in crashes and other issues.

I need a way to get accurate sizes for controls without running the message loop.

                                    • Make it easy to use WPF from C++

WPF is the most modern technology for creating GUIs Microsoft has to provide. Unluckily it is rather unpleasant to use from C++(/CLI) (at least a lot more unpleasant than C#).

So add C++/CLI as an additional first-class language for developing WPF applications.

Create a WPF Directory Selector. I have to include the WIndows Forms one, and once I do that, Visual Studio now thinks my project is a forms project, and acts quite differently.
