I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.

  1. Make it easier!

XAML is very (very!) difficult to learn and use. It is largely undiscoverable (unlike the .NET framework) and often produces error messages that border on mystical. I know this stuff can be difficult and that everyone is trying hard but everytime I try to do anything "outside the box" in XAML it's tremendously difficult. Run of the mills stuff is pretty easy, but one foot outside the line and “wham!”. At my last employer I hand-coded (and code the generation of postscript) and I’ve done similarly with HTML, so I’m use to the idea of rendering and declarative syntax (I…

    • Either support WPF-Visual-to-Metafile API or support new XPS clipboard format in MS Office

I'd like to paste the WPF vector output into MS Office. If Metafile export isn't supported then how about an XPS clipboard format that MS Office can consume.

      • Improved/rewritten RichTextBox especially dictionary languages

The current RichTextBox implementation is buggy, especially regarding listitems. It is also almost impossible to extend (throwing exceptions on an "unrecognised" DP anyone?) with the biggest culrpit being the SpellCheck which has massively limited language support, but has no way to extend/replace the default checker.

        • Support SmoothStreaming in WPF

Silverlight SmoothStreaming is provides ability to display high definition video in Silverlight applications. Why we don't have the same ability in WPF? This would open possibility to implement rich media center applications (for example running on TV set-top-boxes).

          • Add full BIDI support.

Currently the text render ignores unicode control characters (such as Right To Left Override) which results in wrong textual display for Arabic and Hebrew languages

            • Allow strongly-typed ViewModels, as in ASP.NET MVC.

It would be nice to let us specify the type of a ViewModel, as in ASP.NET MVC - this would allow us to catch a whole swathe of binding errors at compile time.

              • port Silverlight themes to WPF

It would be nice if some of the Silverlight themes like Accent and JetPack were officially ported to WPF 4 ... it will really help LoB developers without design skills develop decent-looking applications. By default, the DataGrid from WPF 4 under Aero looks like it's from Windows 3.1.

                • Take all the MVVM projects from the WPF Disciples and merge them to create a best of breed framework

The WPF Disciples have many members that are all working on different, but similar MVVM framework projects. Each has some slightly different implementations from each other, but joined together they would be the ultimate MVVM framework.

It would be great to so MS take this community output and provide it to the VS development community at large.. That is if the Disciples grant MS permission to do this.

                  • Reduce XAML verbosity

A lot of things that can't be done using markup extensions require a tremendous amount of disgusting XAML. Some things could be as simple as applying the ContentProperty attribute intelligently. For example, why do I need to specify Setter.Value? Setter's default content property should already be its Value property. Same with DataGrid.Columns. DataForm is an improvement in Silverlight but still not perfect. A simple label/field layout should be a first class use case in XAML.

                    • Multithreaded Panels

Sometimes you want a part of the UI to update seamlessly in parallell to what the rest of the UI thread is doing. The only way to achieve this right now is to have a topmost window running on a different thread.

It would be great if there was a Panel Control that could run in a separate thread instead

                      • UI Virtualization with smooth scrolling

It would be great to have improved UI virtualization in listbox's itemscontrol, etc and have smooth scrolling enabled, rather than content scrolling.

                          • Application-modal Windows/Dialog Boxes

In Windows SDK programming, I believe modal dialog boxes were automatically application-modal - they prevented you from interacting with *any* other application window until they were dismissed. In WPF, there is, amazingly, no way to do this. Modal windows in WPF are only modal to their parent/owner window. If you have an application with multiple windows independent windows, and you want to put up a dialog box that is modal to all of them, you have a lot of work to do to manually prevent all of your other windows from activating until your modal dialog is dismissed. This is…

                              • Xaml documentation with the intellisense.

It would be nice to be able to see what the object is for and what the property does instead of having to go to MSDN the whole time. This would be useful when dealing with something new in WPF, especially if you're a newbie.

                                    • Smoother Animations

Even running on a powerful computer without transparency and framerate set high, animations are stil a bit choppy.

This might be to the fact that there is no VSync, anyways smoother animations would be great

                                        • Add multi-selection support in ListCollectionView (and friends)

A ListCollectionView keeps a "SelectedItem" to track selected item in a collection, it would be really nice to extend it so it also has a "SelectedItems"-observablecollection that tracks more than one 1 item. And of course keep "SelectedItem" for the "most selected item" kind of.
